My Adventure
Every adventure begins with a first step.
Mine began when Jennifer, a second grade teacher at my
school, successfully marketed an idea she had. Hmm, I thought,
I’ve been sitting on an idea for quite some time; maybe
it’s time to let it fly.
I was frustrated with the bulkiness of big books and the
inadequate easels made for them.
I decided to try my hand at a new kind of easel. This
was the beginning of a process that led to the creation
of the
Hanging Big Book Easel.
The first big step was to find a manufacturer.
After making many calls with limited success, I talked
to a gal at Scholastic who gave me the number of a small
independent manufacturer, owned and operated by a
family of craftspeople who were already in the business
of making easels. They took my idea and streamlined it,
making it into the versatile product you see today.
I am very thankful for many people.
My dear husband, Loren, was a real source of
encouragement. He made the first easel model out of foam
board, held together with hot glue. My children, who
have become wise before my eyes, are
seeing mom in a new light! Terry, a good friend, did the
lion’s share of getting the website together. Francie,
another friend, took pictures. My good neighbor of many
years, Duane, optimized the website. And I can’t forget
my first grade team, Pat, Janis, Linda, Erin & Heather,
who have been rooting for me and were the first to try
out the easel.
I’m still looking forward to writing a book, painting a
picture and climbing a mountain, all in God’s time.
